This ain’t Hafiz. My Persian is nonexistent, but this is not a controversial claim: see here (apparently quoting this review) or here, or the Amazon review page. Ladinsky made up these poems and referred to them as “versions” or “translations” of Hafiz. Not even close.

pretty, but counterfeit!  Ladinsky, didn’t you think you could stand on your own merits?
